Once I finished this photo book for my sister-in-law, I knew this was something I had to try for myself. While I do not have a major life-changing event, such as a having a baby, I still know that our lives change in subtle ways. And these shifts in our everyday routine become more apparent when they are documented in photos and printed in photo books. Once printed, the patterns of everyday life and how the evolve become more apparent after 6 months, 12 months, 2 years.
By isolating your year to two days spaced out by 6 months, you have fewer photos to cull, edit, and export for a book. This makes it easier to focus on the design. To try something new with how to arrange the photos. To have more fun and experimentation with design elements.
I’ve set this up as a challenge to my Photo Book Club Members to work with me on documenting our life changes over time in a very unique photo book. The goal is to limit the type of photos – either by event or time span – in order to focus on the design vision and how to best represent the photographs.
Now, some of the Photo Book Club members are using this as an opportunity to dig into their own archives to select photos that have repeated over time, such as frequent trips to Disney or Christmas mornings. Others are following my goal to document a weekend in the life in the spring and again in the fall, six months later.
I just wrapped up shooting my first weekend and will wait until late October before I shoot the next round. I thought it would be fun to share some of my photos from my first weekend. It’s been a while since I’ve been consistently photographing my family….so it took a bit of energy to remind myself to pick up the camera. But I’m glad I did and can’t wait to see what our life looks like in October!

In the spring of 2014, the New Jersey band Real Estate released a new album, Atlas. Pitchfork described it as their most forlorn album and their most beautiful. That summer, it was our go-to album
I was particularly inspired by the song, Talking Backwards. Although it’s about a guy having a hard time telling his girlfriend he loves her, I couldn’t help but find other parallels to things that, for whatever reason, hold us back.

Talking Backwards became my theme song for creating In One Hundred Pages. I wanted to help creative moms who can’t seem to find the time to print their photos even though they know how important it is.
You pick up your camera and take pictures to capture fleeting moments.
You take photos because you love your kids and want to remember them at this moment.
You capture real moments – the smiles, tears, tantrums, laughter.
But for so many of us, when it comes to printing our photos, it’s the one thing that’s so hard to do.
Years from now, do you want to huddle around your computer, phone, Facebook or whatever other digital device/network that’s around to reminisce?
Instead, imagine looking through a photo book.
Flipping page by page, remembering your family’s big and small moments.
Imagine seeing your favorite photos from the year in one place.

If you love the idea of an annual photo book…..but never find time to make one….In One Hundred Pages is for you.
It’s my version of the faster-to-do, must-have annual photo book.
It’s one thing that really matters.
If there’s one photo book you make this year, tell your family story In One Hundred Pages.

On the Fourth of July, I realized it had been a while (a long while actually) since I completed a Day in the Life. While I don’t think our routine has changed all that much in the last few months, it’s always fun to peel back the curtain a bit and reveal what goes on inside our household. Of course, with the holiday, it was somewhat atypical….but still really fun to do.
I hope you enjoy!!!
In the morning, a 10k race happens at the end of our street.

L was a little unsure what to make of the runner in the middle of the road.

Then, a VERY simple breakfast of toast with butter. aka – nothing else in the house, aka – grocery shopping on the agenda today.

After breakfast, I had a quick conference call to chat with a lovely Accountability member.

Now, it was time for cleaning. My husband and I thoroughly cleaned our house.

While the kids watched some television. Or in my daughter’s case, the iPad in her room.

After several hours of cleaning, I decided to get a snack and take the kids to the park while my husband went to the grocery store.

My son picked out the spot for our picnic.

What’s a park visit without a turn at the swing?

If that wasn’t enough activity, it was now time for my afternoon walk. I loaded up my daughter in the stroller…

…hoping she would take a nap.

Success!
This next photo doesn’t really describe anything we did during our day. It’s a Just-Because photo. My daughter’s hair is just now starting to pony-tail-able.

It’s now about dinner time and my husband is getting things ready for the grill.

After dinner it was a little relaxation before…

FIREWORKS!!!

We let our kids stay up for the first time to watch the fireworks. Thankfully, we are able to see our city’s fireworks from our front lawn so my kids could be in pjs and we could easily take them to bed once they were finished. Man, were they wired though! They loved them.
This was my first time truly attempting fireworks. I’ll definitely have to try again next year!
So that was our day! What did you think! I’d love to hear from you and leave you some blog love back. Leave a comment below with your website so I can check out your Day in the Life, or most recent blog! 😉

Now that it is June, it is time to start thinking about and taking summer photos. To me, that means picnics, barbecues, and nothing says summer quite like a pool photograph. I love Lynne Rigby and I love Lynne Rigby’s photographs. She is amazingly talented – both with her camera and teaching. Truly inspiring lady. But…today…I want to focus on her pool photographs. I loved so many of them last year and already a little giddy for her photographs this summer.
Her photographs highlight the sun sparkle, the waves of the pool, and her kids in and out of the water. Here is a great photograph to get you inspired for your pool photographs this summer. And just warning you…there may be more. Seriously love her!
I want to see your summer photographs! I have started a flickr set that you can link your photograph to. Or you can always leave a comment below with a link to your blog post, Facebook page or flickr set. Love to see each other’s work!!!

The following is an example of my May page for the One Word Challenge. For this layout, it is only 1 page with a simple border around a 5″x7″ photograph.

Here is a very simple cover idea for a photo book for your child. It pulls a dominant color from the photograph and creates a band at the bottom for the text. You can use your child’s name or nickname to personalize it even further. Selecting a font that you love or that really sums up the personality of your child really adds to the cover.

I am super excited to share with you the final installment Book This Project ebook launch!
The House the __________ Built
I love this idea! I adapted the concept from R. Caldecott’s “The House that Jack Built” and customized it to fit our family including my son’s favorite things for a personalized book.
This concept is incredibly easy to customize for your family. Upon purchase, a questionnaire and upload form will be emailed to you. Once you upload the photographs of your “characters,” I will pull it all together in a beautiful, easy-to-use ebook or pdf.
Photographs and narratives do not have to be known before you purchase. I will walk you through all the steps and provide suggestions!
The main point is to create a cumulative tale that describes the fun family members and toys that live in your household.
Here is the text from my final “page”:
This is the phone that buzzed in the morn,
That woke up daddy not shaven or shorn,
Who kissed mommy in her pj’s worn,
Who fed Lydia all forlorn,
Who loved the elephant with the big, loud horn,
Who startled the bear,
Who pushed the fire truck,
That carried the cheese,
That Lay in the House that Alden Built!
This video illustrates how it all comes together!
If you have any questions, please let me know!
Again, for any of the ebooks that have been launched, you do not have to have the photos and text ready. I will work with you to customize your book!
Even though this concludes the official launch of ebooks, I will continue to release new book and ebook ideas, so make sure you check out the website, facebook, and newsletter!

The following is an example of my April page for the One Word Challenge. For this layout, the photo is a full book spread bleed. In order to do this, I had to crop the image but I think it still works and will have a big impact in my family book.
